Campbell Union High School District

Robert Bravo, Superintendent

How does your district define educational equity?

We are not at a place where we can say we truly have a single definition of educational equity that is shared by all members of our district community. We have been moving in the direction of emphasizing equity of outcomes over equal access to inputs. In the kickoff meeting of all district management, the superintendent shared Dr. Robin Avelar La Salle’s “x marks the spot” visual representation of equity and explicitly named it as his own definition. Last year Education Trust West conducted an Equity Audit of the district and this year has been facilitating a group of staff and stakeholders in creating a Blueprint that outlines a three-year plan as to how the district will address the audit findings. A number of Blueprint progress updates have been provided to stakeholders in the form of short videos and members of the Blueprint committee gave a summary presentation on their work to the Board of Trustees on March 2, 2023. So while there is work to be done the District is moving in the right direction of establishing a shared vision of equity.
