How do you define educational equity?

There are many facets of educational equity.  However, my definition of educational equity is each student's just and fair treatment.  It is an educational system that empowers students and their families.  It gives them the skills and support to access post-secondary educational opportunities.  Educational equity should emphasize customized practices and personalized treatment because no two students are alike.  These practices should include culturally responsive instruction, inclusive school cultures, school-community connections, and student and staff capacity building.  It is an environment in which constant change is needed to meet the needs of the changing student population.
